Every day millions of humans compete with themselves to be healthier, using online collaborative systems from yoga classes to Cross-fit. They play games online, they watch teams compete to stand on a pedestal, they use mind tricks and riddles to remember where they parked. Over and over we see that competition and cooperation don’t always have to be opposites. Indeed, when paired, they can make good things happen.

Earth2 challenges builds on this, let’s get our planet competing with itself to a stable climate, equitable growth and widespread public health.

One area for coopetition has been especially productive, that of targeted innovation challenges, ranging from XPrize contests to those now offered by every federal agency. And we believe there are opportunities to apply this approach in new ways.

LEVEL 0:

Our first challenge, level 0, will be for innovators to come up with new ways for health systems across the country to vaccinate everyone. Starting small and refining our methods, we hope to find methods applicable from a hospital to whole communities, states, nations….All of us.

Solving the world’s problems is a task that can’t be accomplished alone. Luckily, everyone who cares (and maybe even those who don’t) can contribute. Earth 2.0 is an all-inclusive initiative that won’t choose between experts and citizens, between top down and grassroots approaches. We recognize that our best opportunity to address problems with great complexity and scope is to investigate all approaches – institutional and citizen-centric efforts alike. Therefore, we choose both.
